Classes
The following group classes will be held at the A-Space Community Center at 4722 Baltimore Ave. in West Philadelphia, PA. Group classes are offered as intergenerational experiences, from age 10 to 110. These classes are usually scheduled once a week for two hours, for a total of four to eight weeks. SPRING 2010 CLASS SCHEDULE
GROUP CLASSES
PAINT & POETRY
Saturdays, April 24th - June 5th (No class on May 8th)
3:30-5:30pm
Class size: 3-8
$210, includes cost of most materials
This interdisciplinary course offers artists of all levels of experience the opportunity to explore both written and visual art forms. Free writing and “source painting” experiences will lead to a completed work of art that integrates the two modes of creative expression.
ALTERED ART/MIXED-MEDIA
Saturdays, April 24th - June 12th
5:30-7:30pm
Class size: 3-8
$250, includes cost of most materials
Artists will have the opportunity to explore various 2 & 3-dimensional pieces of work in the realm of altered art/mixed media. Found objects and their narratives will be a main theme of this course. Artists may choose to alter a book, create “textural” paintings or construct assemblages. The possibilities are endless!
OPEN STUDIO
Sundays, April 25th - June 27th
5:30-7:30pm
Suggestion donation: $10 an hour, or $20 per session (includes materials fee and donation to A-Space)
Create in community! Spend time with other artists as we create and have fellowship together!
PRIVATE CLASSES
Class Size: 1
The rate of private classes ranges from $25-$35 an hour, depending on supplies provided. Additional fees apply for outreach lessons in the Greater Philadelphia area. Private classes are custom-tailored to the interests and budget of each student.
Interested in a class but would prefer to learn privately? With private instruction an artist can explore the techniques of any group class but within a framework designed specifically to the artist’s interests. Special attention will be given to helping the artist (re)discover her/his ability to connect with personal creativity and passion. Class topics can include:
- Introductory oil painting

- Intermediate oil painting
- “Source-painting”
- Creative writing, journaling and poetry
- Altered book arts
- Altered art/mixed media
- Sculpture
Choose one, or design with the instructor a kaleidoscope of creative experiences.
